Overturned ships, finicky cows and invisible floods all make themselves seen on this award-winning Disaster Tour!
We’ll talk about Chicago’s greatest disasters (the Chicago fire doesn’t even come close in terms of lives lost!) and alternately, some of it’s greatest victories.
Sure, it might feel weird to learn about a city this way, but Chicago is strongest when it’s mettle is tested. I have sad disasters, big ones, little ones and just to make sure I don’t lose you completely, I even have some funny ones.
We’ll traipse through the Loop, up and over, down and under, no part of the urban fabric is free from mayhem! What I love about this tour is it takes us to a bunch of different locations. And honestly? We laugh and have a ton of fun on this tour – so if you’re sensitive – you should still come!
Some of the disasters we’ll cover:
- The Chicago Fire – We’ll talk about how it started, how it grew and who we blamed it on.
- The Iroquois Theater Fire – The largest theater fire in the history of the world.
- The Battle at Fort Dearborn – The dramatic story of Billy Wells and Captain Heald.
Every Disaster Tour guest receives a special gift from the Chicago Fire Soccer Team! YES!
What to expect
This walking tour is about a mile and we move relatively quickly! City streets, curbs, noise and all of the above are to be expected. This tour is great for kids if they’re not too sensitive, but I never take it too far. Heh.
Start: The Cultural Center – 78 E. Washington
Finish: Clark Street and The Chicago River
My wife, two grandchildren, and I completed the Disaster Tour with Margaret. Her animated presentations made for a very informative and enjoyable experience.I grew up in Chicago and I learned several things I hadn’t known. I would highly recommend this tour. – Dominic M
