Sometimes, nothing better than a quote will do. First, I will post some I found, then I will post some great ones from the Facebook crowd. Sit back, enjoy and please post one here or on Facebook if you have more!
“If you can’t make it here, you can’t make it anywhere.” Old Chicago proverb
That is frakking hilarious. It is so second city, I love it. It makes me laugh out loud.
“Chicago has a strange metaphysical elegance of death about it.” - Claes Oldenburg.
I’m not exactly sure what it means, but it sounds cool. I googled Mr. Claes Oldenburg; he’s a Swedish sculptor, raised in Chicago and is the sculptor of “Batcolumn” at 600 W. Madison:

“Had I known in 1890 how long it would take me to preserve a park for the people against their will, I doubt if I would have undertaken it.” – Aaron Montgomery Ward
This always makes me cry when I give tours and Montgomery Ward comes up. I seriously get teary. I want to tell him that we all love him and he was awesome and that we’re so thankful.

Always loved: “Hollywood is hype, New York is talk, Chicago is work.” –Michael Douglas
As for the Algren quote, I always liked the other half of it: “You may well find lovelier lovelies. But never a lovely so real.”
Hey Erica! Love love love the Michael Douglas quote. That’s classic and totally spot on. And yes, Algren nailed it too. We are an authentic city, even if that word has been ruined. Thank you for the quotes!
